Crisis headquarters to seek solutions to energy problems

An inter-departmental crisis headquarters has been set up with the task to "propose solutions to address the chaos in the energy sector", to seek security of gas supplies and predictability of gas prices. The crisis headquarters must propose mechanisms to reduce fuel and electricity prices, Bulgaria’s caretaker Prime Minister Galab Donev and caretaker Minister of Energy Rosen Hristov announced at a briefing.

Minister Hristov described the situation in Bulgaria‘s energy sector as critical. In his words, gas supplies were secured until the end of September. The 7 tankers with American LNG were only offered to Bulgaria. Slots (capacity windows) for unloading the tankers at the gas terminals have not been secured either, which will further raise gas prices. The price of gas from Azerbaijan is much higher as well. It became clear that Bulgargas is in financial crisis and is unable to pay even the agreed quantities.

A tender for the supply of liquefied natural gas is being prepared to ensure the necessary quantities until the end of the year or the end of the heating season, Minister Hristov announced.
