The participation of Bulgaria’s young contestants in the 6th Summer European Youth Olympic Festival in Banska Bystrica, Slovakia has been deemed an enormous success. For the first time in the 15 years in which it has taken part in the tournament, which experts dub a mini-European championship, this country has won a total of six medals – three silver and three bronze. On the last day of the contest, Bulgaria’s U20 volleyball team won a silver medal. Bulgaria’s contestants in gymnastics and in the bars and vault also earned silver medals.

In the Slovak town of Banska Bystrica, where the top young athletes of Europe competed, Bulgaria took part with 46 contestants in sporting disciplines such as gymnastics, cycling, tennis, judo and volleyball. The hope now is that these athletes will go on to win medals at Olympic Games some time in the future.
