Low water level of Danube hampers navigation

Many vessels are still waiting in the Bulgarian-Romanian section of the Danube as the river water level remains low. This was revealed by Ivan Zhekov, the director of the "River Supervision - Ruse" Directorate, to the Bulgarian News Agency BTA.
The water level is lowest in the areas of Belene and Batin islands. "Cruise ships travel whenever it is feasible, and in very few sections. However, in our region this is not possible. Mostly lightly loaded vessels or empty vessels that have a draft of 1.20 - 1.30 meters are sailing here," Zhekov explained. According to him, there are currently no stranded vessels, as captains avoid travelling under the circumstances.
