"The border between Bulgaria and Turkey is extremely easy to cross. I saw with my own eyes how one can cross it with a ladder". This was what caretaker Minister of the Interior Ivan Demerdzhiev has told bTV when he spoke about the death of the two policemen who tried to stop a bus with migrants in Burgas yesterday.

The minister added that he had no information that police provided protection for the vehicle. "However, there are data that police officers are involved in allowing migrants to cross the border,“ the minister pointed out. The price for entering the country is around 1000 euros, according to information from the Ministry of the Interior.

Ivan Demerdzhiev said that the method of guarding the border was wrong from the start, because it relied mostly on manpower. According to him, the migrant pressure has increased more than six times in comparison to the previous year and every day nearly a thousand people are stopped at the border line.
