There will be reshuffles at Border Police due to the involvement of Interior Ministry officers in migrant smuggling rings

Bulgaria’s caretaker Minister of Interior Ivan Demerdzhiev visited the Bulgaria-Turkey border on Friday. Minister Demerdzhiev announced that in the coming days there will be reshuffles in the regional Border Police directorates because some officials have been involved in migrant smuggling rings. Minister Demerdzhiev gave the Border Police three weeks to fully reorganize its work along the border area. In his words, the extraordinary measures against the increased migration pressure at the border are already yielding results. 

Later today, Bulgaria’s Deputy Minister of Interior will meet his Turkish counterpart. The meeting aims to enhance security on the Turkish side of the border, where a huge number of migrants have been gathering, which impedes the work of the Bulgarian border guards.
