The course of Stryama River has been corrected in the last 5 years, but with a calculation methodology dating to 1980. The question is whether this correction was sufficient. There are also doubts that the river was not cleaned, Eng. Ivan Ivanov, chairman of the Bulgarian Water Association, told BNR.
"The institutions reacted, but no preventive measures were taken," he emphasized. According to him, the constant change of expert management of institutions related to water management contributes to the poor state of the organization in the sector.

Georgi Stoilov, one of the major agricultural producers from the village of Trilistnik, told BNR that his losses amounted to hundreds of thousands of BGN.
"There are about 500 tonnes of flooded sunflower crops and over 300 tonnes of wheat. This is a commodity that was ready for sale, and now nothing is being done with it. There was no time to react because the water rose sharply in about 10 minutes. We don't have insurance because it's quite expensive and if something happens, they don't pay 100%," said the farmer.
