Jews from all over the world pay a visit to Bulgaria's Silistra in the days around the Jewish New Year - Rosh HaShanah. They bow to the grave of one of the 12 most revered rabbis, Eliezer Papo. This year, the celebration began on September 25 and ends on September 27.

The rabbi's memorial has been attracting pilgrims from Israel, the USA, Europe, and South America for years. Many say that after praying at the rabbi's grave, their innermost wishes came true. Believers often leave notes with wishes on the grave.

Eliezer Papo was born in Sarajevo. He studied theology in Bucharest. He chose to become a rabbi in Silistra. As a doctor, he treated everyone regardless of their religious affiliation. He died of typhus in 1827, treating the sick during the Russian-Turkish war.
