The Council of the EU to discuss the issue of Bulgaria’s and Romania’s accession to Schengen in December

During a debate in the European Parliament in Strasbourg, a large number of MEPs called for the immediate accession of Bulgaria and Romania to Schengen, the BNR’s correspondent in Brussels Angelina Piskova informed. Earlier, Bulgarian MEPs from all political groups issued a declaration demanding that the 11-year blockade on the two countries be lifted.

Next week, the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU will organise an expert mission to the two countries to assess the implementation of key parts of the Schengen legislation. The Council of the European Union will discuss the issue of Bulgaria’s and Romania’s accession to Schengen in December.
