Prosecutor General: The Bulgarian state's failure to deal with crime is shameful

The streets are flooded with drugs. You can get drugs cheaper than alcohol, Ivan Geshev said

"Institutions must contribute to the fight against crime instead of indulging in mutual accusations". This was stated by Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev at the forum "Justice in the future: prosecutors and students discuss law" in the town of Pleven.

In his words, over the last year crime in Bulgaria has been growing and it is a shame that the Bulgarian state is not able to cope with it: "The streets are flooded with drugs. You can get drugs cheaper than alcohol. Then you drive under the influence of drugs and nobody is safe. What do we do? We make a propaganda in the media: 'Geshev is bad, the prosecution is bad, and we are terribly good'.

Someone needs to sit down and solve the real problems, and not get involved in so-called - I have been hearing this for 30 years - judicial reform. That's called replacing someone with their own. That's what judicial reform in Bulgaria is."
