Minister of Culture in the caretaker cabinet Prof. Velislav Minekov will hand the painting Chile by Bulgarian artist Ivan Vukadinov over to the Vatican Museum.

Zlatko Minev, member of the painter’s family, Bulgarian ambassador to the Vatican Bogdan Patashev and Prof. Axinia Jurova, an expert of Vukadinov’s work have been invited to attend the ceremony, due on 10 October in Rome. Vukadinov’s painting, also known as In Memory of Heroes impressed Vatican experts during an exhibition of Bulgarian art in Rome in 1975, and they requested that the museum buy it, but the Bulgarian state then refused, on the grounds that the painting constitutes a national treasure and is not for sale.
