2022 is a special year for Bulgarian-Armenian relations. Bulgaria recognized the independence of Armenia on December 23, 1991 and diplomatic relations were established on January 18, 1992. Dozens of agreements and memoranda have been signed in all spheres over the years and the Bulgarian-Armenian intergovernmental commission for trade-economic and scientific-technical cooperation has been playing an important role in boosting relations between the two countries.

On October 4, 2022, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to Bulgaria, Armen Edigarian, participated in the opening ceremony of the exhibition "Memory", dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the mass resettlement of Armenian refugees in Bulgaria and the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

According to NSI data for 2021, trade with Armenia reached 42.556 million dollars. The largest percentage in exports is occupied by petroleum oils, detergents, medicines, tractors. Bulgaria mainly imports spirits, wines, ceramics and timber from Armenia. The interest of Bulgarian entrepreneurs in Armenia has been growing and direct Armenian investments in Bulgaria for 2021 reached 15.4 million euros.
