A day before the first sitting of the new Bulgarian parliament, chief prosecutor Ivan Geshev sent a letter to every MP, in which he called for a "thorough and comprehensive judicial reform" and expressed readiness for a dialogue with the institutions.

"After forming the parliamentary groups, I am ready to respond at the first opportunity to your invitations to discuss the necessary changes needed to overcome the challenges to legality and justice," he wrote. According to him, only a broad professional debate between institutions and the civic society and with the participation of the academic community can guarantee the security of all citizens. "We owe this to our country," the chief prosecutor says.
