The 48th Bulgarian National Assembly was opened with a solemn sitting in the presence of three presidents, ambassadors and former and current politicians. According to tradition, a short speech was delivered by the oldest MP in parliament - this time it was Vezhdi Rashidov from GERB-SDS.

"Wisdom is born in memory, and it is built of memories," Rashidov stated in parliament and demanded from his colleagues to act with accountability:

"Now we all stand together after yet another tough election campaign. Some are insulted, others are forgotten, yet others are defamed and anathematized, and we still wonder how, why, where. In recent months, we have been immersed in rivers of speeches, clichés, incantations and ambitions to prove ourselves right. Therefore, I ask you, colleagues, think!”

Vezhdi Rashidov emphasized that the easiest path is aggression and denial, but also that aggression breeds only aggression. "So for how long? We also know that, immersed in crises and everyday problems, we often lose our direction", he added.

MPs swore to respect the Constitution and laws of the country and to be guided by the interests of the people in all their actions, after which they listened to the anthems of the Republic of Bulgaria and of Europe. The MPs from the Vazrazhdane party sat on their benches when the Ode to Joy began.

And while in the parliament the representatives of all parliamentary groups deliver their speeches, two groups of protesters have gathered around the building.
