Bulgaria is the country with the biggest energy poverty problems in the EU, according to data of Eurostat, analyzed by Statista.

23.7% of Bulgarians did not have access to normal heating in 2021. In second place in the negative ranking is Lithuania with 22.5%, followed by Cyprus with 19.4% and Greece - with 17.5% of the population .

In Switzerland only 0.2% of people are energy poor and in Norway - only 0.8%.

The analysis highlights that Southern European countries generally have worse levels of energy poverty than Northern Europe, showing the wealth gap between the two Euroregions.

The average European level of energy poverty is 6.9%, but all these indicators are expected to worsen in the winter of 2022-2023.
