At an international conference taking place in Sofia, representatives of the regulatory authorities of Albania, Croatia, Greece, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Turkey and Bulgaria discuss problems in media environment.

The meeting of media regulators from the Balkan region, organized by the Council for Electronic Media, addresses hot topics such as disinformation, media literacy and sustainable digital environment. In her presentation, the chair of the Council for Electronic Media, Sonya Momchilova, said that there was nothing more alarming than the presence of fear in media environment.

According to a survey by the Association of European Journalists - Bulgaria, conducted less than a month ago, the journalists acknowledged the existence of self-censorship in their work. According to Momchilova, in the backdrop of the Covid pandemic and the war in Ukraine, media regulation has been turning into an increasingly complex activity that is hampered by outdated legal frameworks.
