MPs vote to keep the multimember constituency for expatriate voters

Bulgaria’s lawmakers voted at a second reading to keep the multimember constituency for expatriate voters. The MPs also rejected the proposal to raise from 40 to 100 the number of voter applications required for the opening of a polling station abroad. 

The National Assembly also voted against the proposal to raise from 15 to 25 the number of the Central Election Commission’s members. The public council with the Central Election Commission was also kept. The lawmakers did not approve the proposal to open ballot counting centers outside the sectional election commissions. However, the proposal for introduction of a video monitoring of the ballot-counting process at the end of election day was approved.

During the second reading in parliament, with a total of 124 votes from GERB, MRF and BSP, the return of the paper ballot in the sections with more than 300 voters was finally accepted. "We Continue the Change", "Democratic Bulgaria", "Vazrazhdane" and "Bulgarian Rise" - a total of 95 MPs voted "against". The MPs of"We Continue the Change" and "Democratic Bulgaria" called for protest actions this evening from 6:30 p.m.

The majority accepted that "in the polling station, the voter may vote with a paper ballot or with a machine ballot."
