Despite the increased migrant flow, Bulgaria manages to withstand the pressure

The Bulgarian state has mobilized all available resources to resist the strong migration pressure along the border. In a telephone conversation with Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer today, President Rumen Radev noted that the influx of migrants to Bulgaria has increased many times compared to last year.

The head of state indicated that regardless of the workload and exhaustion, the border guard officers are coping with the pressure. Assisting patrols and technical equipment were sent to the border, additional law enforcement officers and Bulgarian military personnel were dispatched.

Radev emphasized that Bulgaria was grateful for the support of the European Union, but expected recognition of what has been achieved and solidarity through the acceptance of Bulgaria into Schengen without further delay. According to Radev, the blocking of Bulgaria for Schengen will have a demotivating effect on law enforcement officers who continue to perform their duties professionally.
