The prosecutor's office has no evidence that the Bulgarian border can be crossed in exchange for 50 euros, Procecutor General Ivan Geshev has announced, commented a statement made by Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte to NOS Nieuws to justify Amsterdam's decision to block Bulgaria's entering the Schengen area.

"We will request, through international legal aid, evidence from our partners in the Netherlands for crossing our border with Turkey "with a 50 euro bill". Bulgaria is a state governed by the rule of law and as part of the EU, upon receipt of the evidence the prosecution will take immediate action," Geshev wrote on his Twitter account.
Netherland's position provoked strong reactions in Bulgaria. The former caretaker prime minister and leader of the parliamentary party "Bulgarian Rise" Stefan Yanev said that in retaliation they would submit to parliament a resolution that would oblige Bulgarian representatives to vote against all international proposals of the Netherlands.
