President Radev: Leaving Bulgaria and Romania out of Schengen is "extremely illogical"

President Rumen Radev described as "utterly illogical" Bulgaria and Romania to remain outside the Schengen area in the conditions of a security, economic and social crisis. The Head of State commented this after a meeting with his Greek counterpart Katerina Sakellaropoulou, who is visiting Bulgaria. Sakelaropoulou confirmed that Greece supports the accession of Bulgaria and Romania to the free travel area.

In the meantime, it has become clear that Austria has officially opposed the accession of Bulgaria and Romania to Schengen, while the Netherlands only supports Romania. This was stated during the discussions of EU justice and home affairs ministers in Brussels, BNR correspondent in Brussels Angelina Piskova reported quoting a diplomatic source in the EU Council.
