GERB party has tabled to Bulgaria’s National Assembly a draft decision for the construction of 2 new units at the Kozloduy nuclear power plant, Unit No. 7 and Unit No. 8, with American AP 1000 pressurized water reactors. According to the draft decision, the Council of Ministers should hold talks with the US government to build the two units with Westinghouse reactors and sign an intergovernmental agreement with the United States for the construction of Unit 7 at the Kozloduy NPP, which is subject to ratification by Bulgaria’s Parliament. If the MPs adopt the draft decision, the National Assembly will task the cabinet with licensing the site of Unit 8 of Kozloduy NPP and initiating an environmental impact assessment procedure, the draft decision reads.
