A policeman was detained on Wednesday morning on Trakia motorway near the town of Plovdiv while driving a van carrying 31 migrants. The detainee has admitted that he transported migrants several times, the District Prosecutor's Office-Plovdiv said.

The migrants said they paid about EUR 200 per person to be transported through the country.  The policeman explained that he was paying off a large loan and needed the money, the BNR Plovdiv reported. The 23-year-old policeman has been working in the system for 2 years. He could face up to 6 years in prison and end up paying a fine to the tune of EUR 2,500 - EUR 10,000.
