On January 6 we celebrate one of the holiest Christian holidays – The Feast ofEpiphany, alsoknown as Yordanovden or the Baptism of the Lord.
A festive divine liturgy and a water blessing service take place inall Orthodox churches. Then, the priest and the laity go to a nearby water basin and throws the cross into the water. Men jump into the icy waters to retrieve it. It is believed that whoever reaches the cross first and takes it out of the icy waters will be very healthy and fortunate all the year.Written by: Darina Grigorova
