Attacks continue in Ukraine despite Putin's unilateral truce

Russian and Ukrainian forces continue to exchange artillery fire at the front line in Ukraine, although Russia announced a ceasefire from 12:00 on 6 January until 24:00 on 7 January to mark Christmas. On January 6, Russia, Ukraine and Serbia celebrate Christmas following the Gregorian calendar.

According to the Russian authorities, around 3.26 am local time, Russian air defence systems shot down a drone over the sea near Sevastopol. The Black Sea Fleet has its official primary headquarters and facilities in Sevastopol. The city has been subjected to several drone attacks in recent months. Three days ago, on January 4, two Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles were shot down over the naval port of Sevastopol. According to Ukraine, Russian forces kept up shelling populated areas, while Moscow said its forces had only returned fire. 

The eastern city of Kramatorsk also came under attack and more than a dozen buildings were damaged, Ukrainian officials said. The governor of Kherson region said a strike on a fire station left rescuer dead and four other people wounded in the main city.
