Trade unions on protest, demand renegotiation of carbon emissions for Bulgaria

The two largest trade unions in Bulgaria, KNSB and Podkrepa, are protesting in front of the parliament in defence of the country's energy security.

They are dissatisfied with the commitment in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan to cut carbon emissions by 40% by the end of 2025 compared to 2019 levels and are demanding that coal-fired power plants run until at least 2038.

MPs came to the protest. Before that, the parliament voted a decision obliging the government to change the National Recovery Plan. According to the MPs, this is possible after the European Commission recognized the change in the geopolitical situation due to the war in Ukraine and allowed the renegotiation of projects from the RePowerEU plan.
