Lawmakers sack director of the National Health Insurance Fund

The National Assembly dismissed prof. Petko Salchev as head of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF). The reasoning for the motion was consistent failure to meet his obligations as head of NHIF and disturbed dialogue with the Bulgarian Medical Association.

During his address to the MPs, Professor Salchev said that he disagreed that he had consistently failed in his duties and that he was leaving his post with his head held high, leaving behind a well-functioning institution.

He said the allegations against him were neither documented nor supported by facts. He added that when one side is unwilling to communicate with the other, then there can be no dialogue.
