Sofia favours building trust while celebrating the common history with Skopje

Bulgaria's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that politicians and public figures from Bulgaria and North Macedonia have a responsible role in building trust and good neighbourliness. It is emphasized that public statements that insult or provoke the other party are absolutely unacceptable and counterproductive. They are not and cannot be interpreted as Sofia's official position.

Given the common history that connects the two countries, the celebrations of common historical events and personalities, such as the anniversary of Mara Buneva, should lead to the strengthening of trust and good neighbourliness.

No less dangerous are the appeals of marginal parties in North Macedonia against Bulgarian politicians and public figures who are committed to protecting the rights of Bulgarians in North Macedonia and projects for the rapprochement of people between the two countries, says the position of the Foreign Ministry.
