Strong wind causes serious problems in Bulgaria

Red code for dangerous weather has been announced in 5 regions of Bulgaria - Montana, Vratsa, Lovech, Gabrovo and Veliko Tarnovo. For a second day, the strong wind affects flights to and from Sofia Airport, the airport's Facebook page reported. A flight to and from Istanbul has also been canceled.

A state of emergency was declared in Vratsa because of the hurricane-strong wind and the military is helping to clear the city of fallen trees and debris. Wind gusts exceeded 140 km/h.

The strong wind also caused a train accident. A passenger train hit a fallen tree near Vidin, which knocked down a pole of the electric network. One passenger was slightly injured. Train services there were suspended for hours.

In Plovdiv, three girls, aged 12 and 13, were taken to the hospital for examination after a tree fell on a bench they were sitting on. One girl has a pelvic injury and the others have head injuries. The condition of the children is not serious, but they remain in hospital.
