On January 24, a steering committee headed by the leader of "There is Such a People" party (ITN), Slavi Trifonov, is to launch a petition to initiate a national referendum for convening a Grand National Assembly, which will decide whether to change the form of governance from parliamentary republic to presidential republic. "The parliamentary republic is already exhausted and we have to move towards changing the system" said Stanislav Balabanov from ITN.

"Changing the model of governance of a country is an extremely important topic that requires a calmer situation in which a genuine campaign for or against can be conducted. It is not good when referendums are combined with elections," Vice President Iliana Iotova said for the BNR.
