A new search team of The Emergency Aid and Prevention Directorate of Sofia Municipality will set off for Turkey to help quake-hit areas. Sofia mayor Yordanka Fandakova pointed out that at the moment 16 people are already there with the necessary rescue equipment. The Emergency Unit's ambulance has also been sent to assist the teams from the Military Medical Academy, and a bus of the Sofia Municipality will be leaving today, the mayor further announced. Our teams are constantly working in difficult and risky conditions, said Fandakova and expressed hope that everyone will come home safe. She noted that she is constantly in contact with the rescuers.
The first two rescue teams, which left for Turkey on the day of the disaster, are expected to return on Saturday. The new team consists of 7 people and will leave the same day. It includes engineers and specialists who will help in surveying and clearing areas. According to Fanfakova, the first hours after such a disaster are the most important so that as many people as possible can be found and rescued.
