In front of journalists in Brussels, before the start of the extraordinary meeting of the European Council, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev emphasized that the subject of the European integration of the Republic of North Macedonia is not on the agenda of the meeting, but it will necessarily be raised by him.

According to Radev, the problems with the Republic of North Macedonia outline the EU's approach to our future as a union based on values and principles. The head of state reminded that in the last two years he defended the position of Bulgaria in all European formats, including by imposing a veto, in order to understand the seriousness of this problem in all its depth.

"The Bulgarian position on this issue is actually the European position and it is precisely this position that found a place in the negotiating framework for the Republic of North Macedonia", Rumen Radev also emphasized.

The head of state pointed out that the aggression and the escalating anti-Bulgarian campaign in the Republic of North Macedonia is already leading to hate crimes - arson, shooting at cultural clubs, physical violence against Macedonian Bulgarians and Bulgarian citizens. Therefore, the head of state insists that the European Union impose monitoring and guarantees for the observance of the rights of the Macedonian Bulgarians in the Republic of North Macedonia.
