After 49 days at sea, the Sts. Cyril and Methodius research ship, with number 421, is expected to arrive at the Bulgarian Antarctic base on Livingstone Island in Antarctica on 13 February.

The ship entered the Drake Passage proper on Saturday, the ship’s captain Hristo Hristov said. It is now past the 56th parallel, the same latitude as South America’s Southernmost point Cape Horn. Around the 60th parallel the ship circumvented the South Shetland Islands. From the East, through the Bransfield Strait which separates the archipelago from the continental part of Antarctica, the ship will enter Emona Anchorage where the St. Kliment Ohridski Antarctic base is located.
