A Spartan military aircraft with humanitarian aid for the victims of the devastating earthquake in Syria is to take off at 10.00 am from Vrazhdebna Airport. The aircraft loaded with 2.5 tonnes of blankets, bedding sets and tents, provided by the Bulgarian Red Cross and the Ministry of Interior, is expected to land in Lebanon. On the way back the plane will make a landing in Turkey to fly medical teams from the Military Medical Academy back to Bulgaria. In the past 10 days the teams have been providing the people in distress with medical assistance.

“This is the first batch of humanitarian aid for Syria, but we will periodically send more”, caretaker Minister of Interiod Ivan Demerdzhiev said. In his words, the procedure began with a conversation with the European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, who clarified the mechanism for delivering aid to Syria. The Syrian authorities have given permission for the delivery of the humanitarian aid which will go through Lebanon. Cargo vehicles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent will transport the aid from Beirut to Damascus.
