Seven arrests have been made so far after authorities found a truck with 18 dead migrants yesterday. The deceased, including a 7-8-year-old child, were from Afghanistan. They died of suffocation in the vehicle, which was found near the Sofia village of Lokorsko.

Four people have been arrested in Burgas and three in Sofia and the Sofia region, BNR reported. Police have been searching addresses across the country all night for people linked to the case. Thirty-four other migrants who were travelling in the same truck are still being treated in hospitals in Sofia. Forensic officers are determining whether the truck driver is among those arrested.
The truck had one owner according to its documents and another de facto owner, but their involvement in human trafficking is being clarified by police. The truck had travelled several times in recent months along the same route from eastern Bulgaria to the capital. It is being investigated whether the truck was carrying illegal persons on these journeys.
