Easter fasting - the longest purification of soul and body for all believers

Photo: Archive

The Great Lent preceding Easter in Orthodox Christianity in 2023 begins on February 27 - the Monday after Cheesefare Sunday (Sirni Zagovezni). The Great Lent lasts seven weeks and ends a day before the Orthodox Easter, which this year falls on April 16. ‎
The Easter fasting period symbolizes the time when Christ spent forty days in the desert fasting and preparing for self-sacrifice in the name of God and humanity. Therefore, it is believed that through the Easter fasting, a person cleanses his body and soul.
