Two Bulgarian citizens were injured in the train crash in Greece, Bulgaria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.  They were admitted in hospital in Thessaloniki. The Bulgarian diplomatic mission, which is in contact with the local authorities, is providing assistance to the injured Bulgarian citizens.

Dozens of passengers were seriously injured in a head-on collision between a passenger train and a freight train on Tuesday night. The accident claimed 36 lives. More than 100 were injured. The rescue operation continues.

According to passengers who eyewitnessed the accident, many of the train’s doors did not open and some passengers were trapped inside the carriages, the BNR’s correspondent in Greece Katya Peeva reports.

Authorities have expressed concern that the death toll will rise. It is assumed that wrong information of the traffic control from Larissa station caused the accident. Rail traffic from Thessaloniki to Athens has been suspended.
