The novel Time Shelter ("Vremeubezhishte") by Georgi Gospodinov is on the long list for the International Booker Prize. He is the first Bulgarian writer to be nominated for the award, the publishing house "Janet 45" announced. The book is translated by Angela Rodel.
Time Shelter is about the opening of a “clinic for the past” that offers a promising treatment for Alzheimer’s sufferers: each floor reproduces a decade in minute detail, transporting patients back in time, The Guardian notes.
The longlist selected 13 out of 134 books eligible. The shortlist of nominees will be announced on April 18 at the London Book Fair. Six of the original 13 books will be shortlisted. The winner will be announced on 23 May at a special dinner in London.
