1.7 million euros of state aid has been earmarked for the Bulgarian minority in Romania, the deputy in the Chamber of Deputies in the Romanian Parliament, Georgi Nakov, told BTA. He is the secretary in the parliamentary group of national minorities, which includes 18 MPs.

20 minorities are recognized in Romania, including the Bulgarian one.

"This year, the state aid for us increased by 12.5% compared to 2022", specified Nakov. The Union of Banat Bulgarians disposes of the money, but the Council of Ministers determines what it can be spent on, and the manner of spending is checked by the Audit Chamber.

"Anyone can come to us and apply for project financing. The condition is that they are not members of political parties and do not have any political activity," Nakov explains.
