The Sofia Zoo has new arrivals – two black jaguars. The zoo in Bulgaria’s capital city has never before had black jaguars. The animals are siblings, they are 6 months old and are called Jeanne and Jacques. They came to Sofia from Parc des Felins in France where they lived with their parents.

The black jaguars are part of the special programme of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria. Last year, the zoo’s jaguar Crazy died at the venerable age of 17 - out in the wild jaguars have a life expectancy of up to 12. Two elephants are expected from Germany in summer.

There are 2,150 animals of 237 species at the Sofia Zoo, 29 of them are among the endangered species on the planet.
