The prosecutor's office is investigating several people, the list possibly including a journalist, for influence peddling. The state prosecution released recordings found in the possession of one of them, in which the replacement of Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev is discussed and somebody explains that they are collecting 400 000 leva /over 200 000 euro/ to replace a police chief.

The prosecutor's office gave only the initials of the suspects. Pre-trial proceedings were initiated after the security services received a secret report. "We are talking here about what some call a 'controlled state' and others call a 'mafia' - a fusion of all kinds of institutions, criminals, thugs and whoever else you want," the prosecutor general said.
