A protest march in defence of fired National Theatre director Alexander Morfov, winner of numerous prestigious awards, passed through the streets of Sofia.

It was organized by the newly formed "Movement for Culture", which includes artists, directors and cultural activists. The protesters filed a letter of protest to the Ministry of Culture, the Presidency and the Council of Ministers, demanding reforms in the field of culture and a strategy for the development of the sector and the resignation of the director of the National Theatre, Vasil Vasilev.

"Personalities at the National Theatre mean nothing, the National Theatre is what is important," the Vasil Vasilev said at a press conference after Morfov's dismissal.
