Sofia: an increasingly popular destination among foreign tourists

Urban tourist destinations have been recovering very rapidly after the coronavirus pandemic.

The municipal department of tourism, Sofia is expecting the number of tourists to reach pre-pandemic levels and even higher numbers. A 61% increase was registered in 2022 compared to the previous year. The foreign tourists are mostly aged 30-44, and come primarily from Israel, Italy, Germany, Romania, Turkey, Lyudmil Pavlov, director of the municipal department of tourism told BNR’s Mila Mladenova. The flow of tourists from Great Britain and Turkey is also going back to previous levels. There is interest by tourists from more distant countries such as USA, Brazil, Canada, South Korea, Japan and even India.
