Under no circumstances is a termination of the election process envisaged, deputy chief secretary of the Interior Ministry Chief Commissioner Stanimir Stanev said.

At a press conference today, Minister of the Interior Ivan Demerdzhiev announced a protocol for action on election day in the event of bomb threats, such as have been emailed to schools across the country in the past few days.

Tomorrow, the buildings where there will be polling stations will be searched after which they will be guarded, Chief Commissioner Stanimir Stanev said further. Meanwhile, school headmasters stated that they expect the Interior Ministry to issue uniform instructions on how to act in the event of bomb threats or any other threats targeted at the educational establishments they are in charge of. “The fact that different schools and different headmasters are reacting in different ways shows there is a problem,” Velichka Tasedjikova, headmistress of St. Kliment Ohridski school No. 70 in Sofia commented for the BNR.

Later, after a meeting with the CEC members, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev stated that the bomb threats from the beginning of the week were hybrid attacks and there was no real danger. According to him, people will be taken out of the polling stations only if there was a real threat. In addition, bulky luggage will be checked outside the buildings.
