Foreign Minister Nikolay Milkov said that Bulgaria would not accept any formulations that would give the Macedonian Bulgarians a status different from that of the other constitutionally recognised ethnic communities in the Republic of North Macedonia. He said this on the occasion of the statement of RSM President Stevo Pendarovski that Bulgaria's request to participate in the process of constitutional changes was "scandalous".

On 5 April in Brussels, Nikolay Milkov said, "As far as we know, there are already discussions on options for future texts that would constitute a change in the (RSM) constitution. We would like to participate in this process so that it runs smoothly".
