Veronica turrilliana, which is found only in the western parts of the Strandzha Nature Park, bloomed before Easter, BNR-Burgas reported. The plant species is endemic to the Strandzha mountain range. Its petals are purple-blue with a light yellow ring in the middle.

The plant was described in 1923 by Bulgarian botanists N. Stoyanov and B. Stefanoff and was named after the English botanist William Turrill.  The plant is included in the Red Book of Bulgaria as an endangered species. It is also included in the International Union for Conservation of Nature's red list of threatened species, Strandzha Nature Park said.
