Sparrow counting takes place in Bulgaria on April 22

On April 22 - Saturday, the national campaign "Let’s Count the Sparrows" will be held for the seventh time in Bulgaria. It is organized every spring by the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds.

This year, the date coincides with Earth Day, BNR Stara Zagora reports. The mission of the campaign is to assess the status of the three most common species of sparrows. The reason it was held for the first time in 2017 is the well-known and disturbing fact that the number of sparrows is declining. The campaign relies entirely on volunteers who count the sparrows on a specific day of the year.
