The Saving of the Bulgarian Jews discussed at a forum in New York

The Holocaust, the rescue of Bulgarian Jews and the measures taken by Bulgaria to prevent and counteract present-day acts of anti-Semitism and ethnic intolerance were the focus of the speech of the Consul General of Bulgaria in New York, Angel Angelov, at a forum organized by the New York City Bar Association. The event was dedicated to the repercussions of the Holocaust and acts of anti-Semitism in historical and contemporary terms, as the Bulgarian diplomat was among the main speakers in it.


The New York City Bar Association, founded in 1870, is a voluntary association of lawyers and law students. Since 1896, the organization has been headquartered in a landmark historic building on 44th Street, between Fifth and Sixth Avenues in Manhattan. Today, the association has over 23,000 members, as one of its main missions is to promote and support the rule of law and access to justice for a fairer society. In its long history, the organization has championed a number of social and legal causes, including Martin Luther King's civil rights for African Americans in USA.



At the forum on the Holocaust, the Bulgarian consul Angel Angelov touched on the topic of the rescue of Bulgarian Jews and the steps taken by the Bulgarian government today to prevent and counter modern manifestations of anti-Semitism, racism and intolerance, an announcement on the Facebook page of the Consulate General of Bulgaria in New York reads. 
Consul Angelov informed the participants about the events that Bulgaria's diplomatic mission organizes in memory of the victims of the Holocaust and in the year in which we celebrate the 80th anniversary of the rescue of Bulgarian Jews, inviting them to attend the event scheduled for April 24 this year - a screening of the documentary A Question of Survival directed by Elka Nikolova.
