Shopska salad cements its position as the Bulgarian "queen of salads"

Three Bulgarian salads are at the top of the 100 best-rated salads in the world, according to a ranking by the popular website for traditional cuisine and local products TasteAtlas.

The Shopska salad is the "queen" of Bulgarian salads, as it has climbed to the prestigious second place of the ranking, just short of the winner - the Dakos salad from Crete, Greece.

The delicious and fresh Bulgarian salad is a combination of chopped tomatoes, cucumbers, green pepper and white onion, seasoned with salt and sunflower oil and sprinkled generously with grated white cheese and parsley. The publication also tells the curious story of the salad with the colours of the Bulgarian national flag - it was created by Bulgarian chefs in the middle of the XX century in an attempt to impress tourists arriving in the country.

But that's not all! Two more salads from Bulgaria - "Shepherd's Salad" and "Snezhanka" - found a place in the top 15 most appreciated salads out of 100 in the world. Be sure to try them when you visit Bulgaria!
