Caretaker Agriculture Minister Yavor Gechev described as a "success" the agreement between the European Commission and Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia on imports of some Ukrainian food products, which the countries vetoed. According to Gechev, Bulgaria has made it clear that there are problems that have been taken into account. According to Gechev, the agreement is a demonstration of the EU's internal solidarity.
The ban on imports of four crops - wheat, rapeseed, sunflower and corn - will be in place until June 5, he said, explaining, "The corridors are still in place and the Bulgarian state and other countries will allow all cargo that is for re-export to third countries, whether in the EU or in other countries." He said he would submit a proposal to the Bulgarian government to lift the national ban on imports from Ukraine.

Regarding sunflower oil, Gechev said the EC was continuing to study the issue. BulgarianMinister of Agriculture will have a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart next week to discuss bilateral relations as well as the issue of sunflower oil.
