National Investigative Service: Assassination attempt against Geshev was not staged

The assassination attempt against Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev was not staged. This was what the deputy head of the National Investigative Service, Yasen Todorov, said.

Speaking to three national televisions, he refuted "the rumors that circulate in some media and in social networks". According to him, the incident is being used for political purposes. There is a long and complex investigation ahead and the results are still awaited, he said, refusing to give more details about the investigation because of the high level of confidentiality.

"Geshev was extremely lucky we was driving in an armored vehicle. The act was carefully prepared, probably over a long period of time," Todorov also said.

Among those doubting the official version is former minister of the interior, Bogomil Bonev, who commented that the explosion was placed on the side of the road but on a slope facing the opposite direction, and that it was strange that a 3-kg explosive did not leave a pit, but "just clipped the grass".
