The Netherlands is not against Bulgaria’s entry into Schengen but expects the country to make more progress on the terms of accession. This was stated by the Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte, in an interview with public service TV BNT, in the capital of Iceland Reykjavik where a Council of Europe summit took place.

We have discussed Schengen many times, Mark Rutte added, including with your president, of course, but that is not up to us. He went on to say that we should wait for the next European Commission assessment to see whether enough progress has been made. So that we are not against Bulgaria’s entry into Schengen, we just have to be sure all conditions have been met, the PM of the Netherlands stated.
